Letter from the battlefields of Paraguay is an account of the travels of Capt. Burton to the battlegrounds of the Paraguayan war in 1868 and 1869. It was written in the last days of his consulship in Santos, Brazil. Using his poignant style he does an excellent job in describing the terrain, the guns and the leaders of the largest conflict of South America. This edition is fully illustrated and annotated in order to improve the reading of the text of Capt. Burton that makes extensive use of Latin, French, Spanish and Portuguese quotations and expressions.
